Central trade unions have condemned the inaction by the Vasundhara Raje government in Rajasthan to get the month-long lockout at the Japanese firm Honda Motorcycles & Scooters India (HMSI) unit lifted.
The unit is located at Tapukara in Alwar district. The lockout has hit 4,000 regular and contract workers. The firm has also reported that it is facing production loss.
The lockout was declared on February 16 after a police lathicharge on the factory premises, following an agitation by workers demanding registration of their union for the past eight months, said a joint statement issued by 10 central unions, including INTUC, HMS, CITU and AITUC here on Thursday.
Expressing solidarity with the HMSI workers, the unions alleged that several “fabricated cases” had been slapped on about 50 workers.
“The unit remains locked out for a month but neither the State government nor its labour department has cared to intervene,” they said, adding that the Raje government should take initiative to bring about normalcy by allowing workers to exercise their right to form unions.
