Ingersoll Rand’s new manufacturing facility at Mahindra World City, near Chennai, went on stream today. It was launched by Global CEO and Chairman Michael W. Lamach.
Spread over 15,200 sq.m., this facility will manufacture a wide range of equipment including bus and truck air-conditioners and commercial heating, ventilation and air-conditioning products.
The delivery of products manufactured and distributed from the site will begin in May. Besides catering to the domestic demand, this facility will also cater to global markets, says a release from the company.
Quoting its Chairman and President Venkatesh Valluri, the release adds that India is a strategic market for Ingersoll Rand globally, and the new facility is part of the company’s overall growth strategy to drive technology innovation and product development.
With this facility, the company will generate direct and indirect employment to over 500 people located in and around the area once it reaches full capacity.
Besides the new manufacturing facility, the company’s operations in India include two manufacturing facilities in Naroda (near Ahmedabad) and Sahibabad (near Delhi) and two engineering and technology centres in Bangalore and Chennai. With a work force close to 2,000, Ingersoll Rand has presence in more than 18 locations in India.
The $14-billion Ingersoll Rand has a diverse product portfolio ranging from complete compressed air systems, tools and pumps to material and fluid handling systems.
