IPL-5 forecast: Sultry conditions seen in Chennai

Vinson Kurian Updated - March 12, 2018 at 01:01 PM.

Presence of a low-pressure and weather-setting trough in the neighbourhood could make Chennai uncomfortably sultry for the day’s IPL match.

Chennai Super Kings would take on Deccan Chargers in the match scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the possibility of south-southwesterly winds prevailing over the southern city for the day.

But a surprise twist in conditions later in the day could see these winds switch direction to being south-southeasterly.

In this case, these winds would carry moisture lifted from the boiling-hot southwest to west-central Bay of Bengal.

In turn, this could jack up the humidity levels to 80 per cent or even more, pregnant with the possibility a showery spell.

The IMD has, in its overnight forecast, said that partly cloudy conditions would prevail with mercury (day) expected to range between 35 and 47 deg Celsius.

The minimum would be in the 27 to 29 deg Celsius range. But the humidity factors would play a big role in setting up ideal conditions for play.
