Bangalore, venue of one of the IPL matches for the evening, is faced with the threat of inclement weather.
The hosts, Royal Challengers Bangalore, are pitted against the Mumbai Indians in the match scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium.
Scattered clouds were spotted over the city in the morning with a steady northerly wind flow.
What has triggered weather worries is the presence of a moisture-laden trough extending from west-central Bay of Bengal across the southern peninsula into the Arabian Sea.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says the wind direction might change to a westerly to north-westerly direction in the afternoon.
These dry winds could run into moist easterlies to south-easterlies, fanning from the Bay into the trough over land and set up thundery weather.
Partly cloudy with 40 per cent chance of rain or thunderstorm is how the IMD sees it 24 hours ahead of the match.
But this is likely to be revised to elevated status according to the forecasts available. vinson.kurian@thehindu.co.in
