Jagran Prakashan net rises to Rs 91.27 cr

Jagran Prakashan Ltd (JPL), the publisher of leading Hindi daily Dainik Jagran, today reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 91.27 crore for the second quarter ended September 30.

The company had posted a net profit of Rs 56.60 crore in the July—September quarter of FY15, Jagran Prakashan said in a BSE filing.

On a consolidated basis, JPL’s total income from operations during the quarter was Rs 519.50 crore, against Rs 436.27 crore in the year—ago period.

Revenue from advertisement was Rs 388.96 crore during the second quarter of FY16. It was Rs 306.93 crore in the same period last fiscal.

Commenting on the performance, JPL CMD Mahendra Mohan Gupta said, “It gives me immense pleasure to report that the company has for the first time crossed the mark of Rs 500 crore in turnover in a quarter.”

“The result for the quarter and half year ended September 30, 2015 include the results of SBHPL Crystal and MBL, with effect from June 11, 2015, which have been acquired from the said date and accordingly are not comparable with the corresponding quarter and half year ended September 30, 2014,” JPL said.

The company’s consolidated net profit for the first half of FY16 was Rs 271.22 crore. It was Rs 111.68 crore in the same period a year ago.

Its total income from operations on a consolidated basis during the first half of the current fiscal was Rs 1,000.65 crore. It was Rs 876.56 crore in the same period a year ago.

JPL shares closed 1.65 per cent down at Rs 140.10 per scrip on BSE today.
