Jaguar Land Rover global sales up 16% in March

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) posted a 16 per cent rise in global sales at 53,772 vehicles in March, following an array of new launches. The British car-maker’s sales for the month in India rose 28 per cent, compared with the same period a year ago.

The luxury car manufacturer, owned by India’s Tata Motors, sold 1.16 lakh units in the first three months of the year, a 17 per cent rise from the same period a month ago, the company said in a statement.

The Jaguar brand’s March sales rose 28 per cent to 9,856 units and its quarter sales rose 31 per cent to 20,210 vehicles. Sales of Land Rover rose 14 per cent to 43,916 vehicles in March and 15 per cent to 95,294 units in 2012, it best monthly and quarterly sales in its 65-year history.

“Jaguar Land Rover is seeing continued year-on-year growth following the introduction of new models, engines and drivetrains with the Jaguar XF Sportbrake, new Range Rover and Range Rover Evoque amongst our top selling models,” said Phil Popham, Group Sales Operations Director, Jaguar Land Rover.

JLR had launched three new models in March this year, and a total of four for the quarter ended March 31.

In March, Jaguar Land Rover sold 17,784 units in the U.K., up 14 per cent, compared with the same month a year ago. Jaguar sales in the UK were up 21 per cent, reflecting a 25 per cent rise in XF (sedan) sales.

Land Rover sold 14,268 units, up 12 per cent, reflecting continued strong demand across the range with Freelander up 45 per cent, Range Rover up 43 per cent and Range Rover Evoque up 9 per cent.

The company sold 8,487 units in China, up 22 per cent, with Jaguar sales up 91 per cent at 1,592 units. Land Rover sold 6,895 vehicles in that country, up 13 per cent.
