Promoter of the country’s only F1 circuit, Jaypee Sports International (JPSI), has now bagged the exclusive TV rights for the Indian round of the FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK).
The race will make its Indian debut on March 9-10 next year.
The company, which runs Greater Noida’s Buddh International Circuit (BIC), aims to resell these rights to Indian broadcasters for both the main race and the support races.
The live TV rights have been acquired from Infront Sports & Media, the organiser of the WSBK.
Sameer Gaur, MD & CEO, Jaypee Sports, said: “This will help generate additional revenue apart from sponsorships. Post the F1 Indian GP, the popularity of motorsport has increased many folds in India and with WSBK also coming to BIC early next year, it is going to increase further.”
The four-year contract, which is in effect till 2016, will also permit Jaypee Sports to resell the non-exclusive TV rights to the broadcasters for other WSBK races outside India.
