JK Tyre & Industries has launched a range of multi-terrain tyres - Ranger - targeting the fastest growing sports utility vehicles (SUV) segment. The company will also export the new range of tyres to its international markets.
"We are very close to being the market leader and this launch will help us reach there. Apart from the marketshare, we are launching a contemporary and safe product," Vikram Malhotra, Marketing Director at JK Tyre said.
The company, which has about nine plants across India and Mexico, is making the tyre at its Chennai plant. The company has a capacity to manufacture 20 million tyres per annum.
The Ranger tyres are being launched in two variants - A/T for all-terrain performance and H/T for tarmac application - and is being launched in 10 sizes.
The tyres fit SUVs in the Indian market such as Audi's Q-series, Land Rover, Freelander, Fortuner, Nissan X-trail, Terrano, Pajero, EcoSport and Duster among others.
JK Ranger AT Series stops within four seconds both on dry and wet roads, with 100-0 kmph in less than 4 seconds on dry roads and 80-0 kmph in less than 4 seconds on wet roads.
"The SUV segment in India is growing and has grown in double digits, and the timing (of the launch) is right...," Anshuman Singhania, Vice President, operations at JK Tyre said.
