Page Industries Ltd, the exclusive licensees of Jockey International Inc (USA), plans to invest ₹132 crore in a manufacturing unit at Hassan.

The company’s proposal has been cleared by the Karnataka State High-Level Clearance Committee (SHLCC) recently, said a senior official of the Karnataka industries and commerce department.

The plant is expected to generate 790 jobs.

Page Industries has the licences to manufacture and distribute the Jockey brand innerwear/leisurewear for men and women in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and the UAE.

It is also the exclusive licensee of Speedo International Ltd to manufacture market and distribute the Speedo brand of sports wear in India.

The official said the company is also exploring Kalaburagi (Gulbarga) for further investments.

The company has shown interest to invest in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, as the region offers tax concessions.

To facilitate the company’s investment, the Karnataka government is planning to allocate five acres at Kalaburagi.

The state government after roping in Coco-Cola as anchor industry for mega food park at Yadgir, also in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region now has completed land acquisition for 1,000 acres and is ready for allotment.

To facilitate more investments to the region, RV Deshpande, newly appointed Minister for Large and Medium Industries, recently held a serious of meetings on how to bring in fresh investments to the Hyderabad-Karnataka region.

To promote investment in this backward region, the state government has decided to fast-track few key industrial infrastructure projects such as airport, industrial areas and so on.
