Jindal Steel and Power Ltd said on Wednesday that it has commissioned the billet caster unit as part of its 6 million tonne per annum steel plant in Angul, Odisha.
The unit has a capacity of 2.3 million tonne per annum and uses the in-house capability of JSPL’s machinery division in Raipur. In the first phase of development at Angul, JSPL has set up a coal gasification plant to produce sponge iron. The plant also has one of the largest electric arc furnace in the country. The first phase aims at 2 million tonne per annum capacity.
“This would enhance our regional product portfolio since we will now be able to produce long products in addition to the flat products already being produced at the Angul plant,” said Ravi Uppal, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer, JSPL.
