JSW Steel has reported a 29 per cent jump in crude steel production at 9.85 lakh tonnes during August against 7.63 lakh tonnes in the same month last year.

According to a company statement, the company produced 8.24 lakh tonnes flat steel, used in auto and fast-moving consumer goods sectors, in August compared with 7.35 lakh tonnes during the same month last year.

Production of long products, used mostly in construction sector, however, slipped 13 per cent to 1.28 lakh tonnes from 1.48 lakh tones.

JSW Steel said that the company is expected to recommence production at one its corex furnaces this month, which was shutdown for relining and capacity enhancement.

“The capacity utilisation at Vijayanagar works remains at around 80 per cent due to iron ore shortage caused by inordinate delays in opening category A & B mines even after the Supreme Court order in April to resume mining operations,” it said.
