Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Co (P) Ltd has received Rainforest Alliance (RA) certification, the global recognition for following and maintaining sustainable agricultural practices.
The recognition to the company assumes significance at a time when the world increasingly embraces sustainable agricultural practices.
KHDP, with 8,845 hectares of plantations, including seven estates and 16 factories, has emerged as one of the largest tea plantation companies in the world to receive this honour.
Chacko P.Thomas, Managing Director, KHDP, said in a statement that the company’s Ripple brand of teas would soon carry the RA certified seal of the green frog on packaging, making it one of the few retail brands in the country to sport the seal.
There exists now a burgeoning movement among global consumers to pick a RA certified product, which is increasingly seen as a benchmark for stringent quality and sustainability standards. As a next step, the company is planning to make the movement further inclusive by helping the small tea growers in the State also achieve RA certification.
