Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd (KOEL) has launched a new range of high horsepower gensets to address the growing market for data centres, malls and other commercial establishments.

“The demand for diesel gensets has been quite robust this year and witness to growth of 8-9 per cent so far and if this trend is any indication, we as a company are in for robust growth of over 15 per cent this year,” Sanjeev M Nimkar, Vice-President and Business Head, Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd, said.

Speaking after the launch of new gensets in the South Indian market, Nimkar said the company is also working on coming out with higher capacity gensets, as also a solar-diesel hybrid genset. The latter is of significance as it is being designed in-house and will cater to some segments seeking such a product.

Announcing the foray into the 750, 910 and 1010 kVA range of gensets in the domestic market, Nimkar said with these additions, KOEL is now the only organisation to offer a range of products starting from 2KVA to 1010 KVA DG sets in the country. These additions also make KOEL the leader in power generation business in India, holding about 33 per cent share in a market of about Rs 6,000 crore.

“There is demand for higher power gensets from data centres, malls, commercial establishments and large facilities, who want a reliable and robust back-up. These gensets provide that comfort. If current trends are any indication, the country’s market is poised to grow by 8-9 per cent,” he said.

He said the new sets have been developed indigenously and are smaller in size, higher in fuel efficiency, lower on maintenance costs and come packed with easy to manage remote monitoring control systems.

The official said about 10 per cent of the business currently comes from exports and the long-term aim is to increase this to 30 per cent of the total business. The demand for export of gensets is mainly from West Asia and Africa.
