Looking to tap the fast-growing Indian market, Italian luxury sports car maker Automobili Lamborghini SpA today launched its latest model, the ‘Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4’, priced at Rs 3.69 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi), in the country.
“India is an emerging market for sports cars, which is evident from the successful Formula 1 race event. We have already received 20 bookings for the Aventador,” Automobili Lamborghini SpA Marketing Manager, South-East Asia and Pacific, Mr James Page, told reporters here.
Launched globally in March this year, the Aventador has received 1,500 orders worldwide so far, he said, adding that the waiting period in India will be around 18 months.
Commenting on the overall sales performance of Lamborghini in India, Mr Page said: “This year, we expect to sell around 20 cars (from other models of Lamborghini) and double it in 2012.”
He said although volumes are very small in the premium sports car market in India, at around 100 units a year, sales are beginning to pick up and Lamborghini plans to conduct owner-training programmes on the Formula 1 track.
“You will be definitely seeing us there (on the F1 track). In the past, we used to take our Indian customers to Europe, but we can do it here now,” Mr Page said.
Powered by a 12-cylinder, 6.5-litre engine, the Aventador is among the fastest street-legal cars in the world and can touch a top speed of up to 350 km per hour.
Mr Page said the Aventador uses the same carbon materials that are used in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The car will be fully imported and sold through Lamborghini’s sole dealer in India, Exclusive Motors.
