Italy’s Lamborghini unveiled this month its latest mid-engined, all-wheel-drive sports car, the Huracan, which will replace the Gallardo after that best-selling sports-car’s 10-year career.

The latest offering from the factory at Sant’Agata Bolognese has a 5.2-litre V10 engine churning out 610 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.2 seconds.

It reaches a top speed of over 325 kilometers per hour, Lamborghini said.

“The Huracan combines absolute performance with easy-to-drive road behaviour and both luxurious and sport-oriented finish,” the Volkswagen-owned company said in a news release.

While performance has been improved compared to the Gallardo, fuel consumption and emissions were cut, to 12.5 liters per 100 kilometers and 290 grams of carbon dioxide (CO2) per kilometer respectively, ensuring the Huracan’s compliance with EU6 emission standards.

Ahead of the car’s official public launch at the Geneva Motor Show, scheduled on March 6-16, Lamborghini said it would organise private viewing events for its wealthy customers in over 60 locations around the world.

Respecting tradition, the new model’s name comes from bullfighting.

“The fighting bull Huracan ... was known for his outstanding courage and strong sense of attack. He fought in Alicante in August 1879 ... entering into the legend of fighting bulls’ history,” Lamborghini explains.
