Larsen and Toubro has bagged an order worth Rs 3,500 crore from the Chennai-based PPN Power Generating Company Ltd to set up a gas-based power plant in Tamil Nadu.
“Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has received an order valued at over Rs 3,500 crore from PPN Power Generating Company Ltd, promoted by the Apollo Group, for setting up a 3x360-MW gas-based power plant at Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu state,” an official statement said today.
The three new units will come up as an expansion project in the same location where PPN Power Generating Company has been operating a 330.5-MW combined cycle power plant since the year 2001, it said.
L&T’s scope of work includes design, detailed engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of the complete power plant on a turnkey basis.
The plant will incorporate advanced class gas turbines and high efficiency steam turbines from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan, which will be procured by L&T.
L&T-Sargent and Lundy, a subsidiary of L&T, will carry out the plant integration and detailed engineering, using the propriety technology of Sargent & Lundy LLC, USA.
The company will design and manufacture critical equipment for the plant, like the heat recovery steam generator, de-aerator, condenser, cooling tower, switchgear and valves. Project management, construction, installation and commissioning will also be carried out by L&T.
The project will be executed by the gas-based power projects business unit of L&T Power based in Baroda.
