Larsen & Toubro said here its new electrical and automation facility for switchgear products, inaugurated on Thursday in Vadodara, will enhance productivity by 2.5 times due to the deployment of labour and automation.

Set up on an 18-acre plot next to L&T Knowledge City, this is a capacity expansion initiative for L&T’s Electrical & Automation (E&A) business, makers of low voltage switchgears in India.

E&A will manufacture Air Circuit Breakers (ACBs) and Moulded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCBs) at this facility, said Mr A. M. Naik, Chairman and Managing Director.

Spread over an area of nearly 27,000 square metres under a single roof, the facility houses modules for assembly lines for circuit breakers — ACBs and MCCBs — along with shops for press working, moulding and tooling. A development centre to provide research, development and engineering for circuit breakers will also be located there.

Mr Naik said the new facility formed part of wide-ranging initiatives L&T is taking forward in the run-up to its Platinum Jubilee.
