Lanco Infratech today said it has commissioned the second unit of the 1,200-MW Anpara thermal power plant in Uttar Pradesh, taking the entity’s total installed capacity to 3,892 MW.
The second 600-MW unit was dedicated to Uttar Pradesh by the Chief Minister, Ms Mayawati, today.
The Lanco Infratech Executive Chairman, Mr L. Madhusudhan Rao, said with this milestone, the company retains the top slot among independent power producers in the country in terms of installed capacity, with 3,892 MW of generation capabilities.
“During the last three years, Lanco Infratech has grown from a total installed capacity of 500 MW to 3,892 MW, which is the current capacity,” he said in a statement.
Lanco Anpara Power synchronised the first and second units of the plant in March and September 2011, respectively.
Coal for the plant is being supplied from the nearby mines of Northern Coalfields Ltd. The power generated would be evacuated through 400-kV and 765-kV transmission systems.
“Sale of power is tied up through the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with UP discoms,” the statement said.
The coal-based Anpara project was awarded to Lanco Infratech in September 2006, by Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd through competitive bidding.
