Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has launched a premium Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) - Land Rover Discovery Sport.
The vehicle, competing against German carmakers, is being launched with prices starting from ₹46.10 lakh.
“This car is destined to chart a new territory which would be difficult for our German friends to compete with,” said Rohit Suri, President at Jaguar Land Rover India Ltd (JLRIL).
These cars would be manufactured at Land Rover's facility in Pune.
The Discovery Sport has been rolled out in four variants, with the entry-level model TD4 Diesel S priced at ₹46.10 lakh (ex-showroom, pre-Octroi in Mumbai). The top-end is priced at ₹60.70 lakh
The prices are inclusive of a three-year or one lakh km warranty (whichever is earlier) combined with a complimentary three-year standard service pack.
The vehicles are available across the company’s 22 authorised outlets in the country.
“We have also got about 300 pre-bookings for the car, and we hope to end this year with sales of at least 3-4 times of that number,” Suri said.
This SUV is the fifth model introduced by Land Rover in India, in addition to the four models launched by Jaguar.
In 2008, Tata Motors had acquired the British luxury car manufacturer JLR, which included the two marquee brands – Jaguar and Land Rover.
Double market share Following this launch, the company expects to double its market share in the automobile segment from the present 9 per cent.
“We are looking to double the market share in the next 2-3 years,” Suri added.
The vehicle, which was launched last year across certain global markets, is available in India in seven exterior colour options.
