Leyland sales dip 9.51% in February

Hinduja group commercial vehicle major Ashok Leyland on Friday reported sales of 10,046 units in February 2013, a 9.51 per cent decline compared to the corresponding period a year ago.

In a filing to the BSE, the Chennai-based company said it had sold 11,103 units in February 2012.

Sales of commercial vehicles excluding small commercial vehicles dipped by 26 per cent to 7,045 units in February 2013 as against 9,521 units sold in same month of last year, it said.

However, sales of its popular small commercial vehicle DOST witnessed a 89.6 per cent jump at 3,001 units in February 2013 as against 1,582 units sold in the same month last year.

For the period April 2012 to February 2013, the company recorded a total sales of 1,00,592 units, a 14.6 per cent increase from 87,724 during the corresponding period a year ago.

However, sales of commercial vehicles excluding small commercial vehicles during the period April 2012 to February 2013 slipped by 14.9 per cent to 70,000 units from 82,342 units sold in the same period of last year, it added.

The company had sold 30,592 units of “DOST” range of small commercial vehicles in April 2012-February 2013 period as against 5,382 units sold during the same period of last year.

Shares of the company were trading at Rs 23.20 apiece, up 4.50 per cent over the previous close in BSE.
