LG Electronics India today announced the launch of a wide range of monitors with innovative features for the IT segment, including a 3D model targeting gaming enthusiasts.
Among the latest on offer are the 3D Cinema Monitor which, the company said, has the flexibility to convert 2D mode programmes into 3D, along with what the world's slimmest LED monitors of 7.2 mm thickness, and the IPS monitor which offers flicker-free viewing.
Price range
The monitors are priced Rs 6,500 to Rs 16,000.
The company's executives also hinted that they plan to gradually focus on LED monitors and away from LCD ones as the purchasing pattern shows a growing preference to the former. At present, there is a price differential of about 10-15 per cent between the two.
Dr Y. V. Verma, Chief Operating Officer of LG India, said, “The company, which clocked the year 2010 with revenues of Rs 16,000 crore across various business segments, expects to close this year at about Rs 20,000 crore.”
“The IT products business spanning monitors and optical drives accounted for revenues of Rs 790 crore for LG India in 2010. This is likely to grow to about Rs 850 crore in 2011,” he said.
The company, which had exited the laptop business about two-and-a-half years ago in India, plans to re-enter this segment with the launch of new products later this year.
“We believe that the market is ready for our laptops now,” Mr Verma told reporters after the launch of new models here.
Investment
The company is investing about Rs 800 crore to expand its manufacturing units in the country.
Referring to the growing opportunities in India for LG's products, Mr Sanjoy Bhattacharya, Product Group Marketing Head, LG India, said, “The first quarter ended with a market share of 33.7 per cent for the company's monitor business. We hope to sustain this momentum with the launch of the new range in the course of the year, including slimmer ones while also focussing on the assembled PC business.”
