Riding on high demand that outstripped supply, luxury car manufacturers Audi and Mercedes-Benz have ended 2014 with best-ever sales in their history in India.
German carmaker Audi sold 10,851 units in 2014, compared with 10,000 in 2013, it said in a statement.
Audi India sold 3,044 units in the October-December quarter, posting a 17 per cent growth over the year-ago period when it sold 2,611 units.
“We had many firsts in 2014, including introduction of segment first products such as A3 sedan and A3 cabriolet and achievement of industry first sales records,” said Joe King, Head of Audi India.
The company also expanded its network to 61 touch points, with new showrooms opened in Udaipur, Visakhapatnam, Nashik and Kozikhode in 2014.
Audi plans to launch 10 new products this year, with a new product in every segment, the A range, Q range and performance range.
The new products would include new Q3, R8 LMX and TT Coupe and in new body styles such as Cabriolet.
Ditto for Mercedes-BenzMercedes-Benz sold 10,201 units in 2014, a 13 per cent rise from 9,003 vehicles sold in 2013.
“We have recorded the highest ever sales in the history of Mercedes-Benz in India till date…. In 2014, we witnessed a strong demand growth for our products, leading to long waitlist on some of the key products, which eventually limited our total sales numbers,” said Eberhard Kern, Managing Director and CEO at Mercedes-Benz India.
The company launched 10 new products and opened 14 new outlets during the year.
