Madhucon Projects has commissioned the second unit of the phase II expansion of its Simhapuri thermal power project near Krishnapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
The diversified Hyderabad-based company, which is implementing the power project through a step-down subsidiary, Simhapuri Energy, operationalised the unit (150 MW) on December 30.
With this, the total installed capacity of the project has gone up to 600 MW. In the phase one, Simhapuri Energy had installed 300 MW.
The project entails setting up of a 1,920-MW thermal power station inthree phases. With two phases completed, it would now move towards building 1320-MW (2x660 MW) capacity in the third phase.
The project, located close to the Krishnapatnam port, is based on imported coal. The company has made arrangements for coal supplies from PTC, a company based in Indonesia.
Madhucon, which has interests in roads, power and coal sectors, has recently sold stake in one of its road projects to TRIL, a Tata Group entity.
The management had also hinted at interest in selling stakes in some more road projects and also bringing in a strategic partner for its power subsidiary.
