Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd, is likely to restart operations at its mines in the Orient group area of Odisha within a week.
The company has approached the Supreme Court seeking a stay order against the closure of its coal mines.
Operations in six coalfields of the region were halted from Saturday onwards following an order of Odisha’s Deputy Director of Mines for MCL not having the necessary environment clearances in this regard.
According to a release issued by the company, a duly completed file for environment clearance in the Orient area is lying pending with the Director of Mines for clearance due to non-clearance of stage-1 forest clearance.
