Auto major Mahindra & Mahindra sold 45,297 vehicles in December, a 6 per cent increase from 42,761 units sold during the same month a year ago.
The company’s domestic sales stood at 42,307 units during the reporting month, a 6 per cent rise, from 39,891 units sold in December 2011.
“High interest rates, rising fuel prices and an overall slowdown in economic growth has kept consumer sentiment low during 2012. This is also evident in the auto industry sales performance for December, which traditionally has been a lean month,” said Pravin Shah, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra.
“We do hope that corrective measures are announced and implemented soon bringing in the much needed buoyancy and growth for the industry. At Mahindra, we are happy to maintain our growth momentum even during these challenging times,” Shah added.
The passenger vehicles segment (including utility vehicles and Verito) registered an 18 per cent growth at 22,761 units in December as against 19341 units during the same month a year ago, the company said in a statement.
The four-wheeler commercial segment which includes the passenger and load categories registered a sale of 13,706 units, while the three-wheeler segment clocked 5,209 units in December 2012. Exports for the month of December 2012 stood at 2,990 units, a growth of 4 per cent over December 2011.
