With space at the Mahindra World City industrial township in Chennai almost fully taken up, the next area of focus will be in Jaipur, according to Anita Arjundas, MD & CEO, Mahindra Lifespace Developers.
The MWC at Chennai, a 1,500-acre industrial township with three Special Economic Zones and Domestic Tariff Area, is home to 64 companies employing over 35,000 people. More than three-fourths of the companies are multinationals and the rest leading domestic players.
Just about 40-50 acres of the saleable area is available for a few more companies. Over ₹4,000 crore investments have gone into the industrial township about 45 km south of Chennai, which also accounts for exports of over ₹8,000 crore annually.
Addressing media persons at the formal inauguration of the MWC Club spread over four acres, she said at Jaipur the project is in the initial stage of companies taking up space. Over 60 companies have taken up space in the 3,000-acre facility and 24 companies are in operation. This will be Mahindra’s second industrial township.
A third such facility is planned in Dholera, Gujarat, for which the company has entered into an agreement with the State Government. Land has to be allocated, she said.
Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, said the MWC concept is to offer livelihood, living and lifestyle. Modern social infrastructure will be needed to support development.
At Chennai, the industrial township has a school, 140-room hotel, and residential space with 500 families and 2,000 homes under construction.
