Tata Power said it has achieved full load generation of Unit I- 525 MW at the Maithon Power plant in Dhanbad, Jharkhand.
It was made after synchronisation of the unit under the requisite standard requirements. Unit 1 is scheduled for commercial operation by H1 of FY12.
Maithon Power is a 74:26 joint venture between Tata Power and the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) for the 2 x 525 MW coal-fired power project in Jharkhand. It is also said to the first successful public-private partnership in green field generation in the country.
Mr Anil Sardana, Managing Director, Tata Power, said, “The achievement of full load capacity at Unit 1 of Maithon on coal is a significant milestone.”
Fuel supplies
MPL has firmed up fuel supplies from Coal India and its subsidiaries. A fuel supply agreement (FSA) has been signed with Bharat Coking Coal for supply to the project.
Tata Power said the project has received all the statutory clearances, including environment clearance for the project. Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) have been signed and power evacuation arrangement has been put in place by the Power Grid Corporation of India. In addition to supplying power to DVC, the Maithon project will export to northern states that face power shortage.
