Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), the country’s leading sports utility vehicle (SUV) manufacturer, has launched a refreshed version of its popular off-roader Thar. The new Thar CRDe, which comes with new exteriors and interiors, is priced at ₹ 8.03 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai).
The new Thar is being launched with new front and rear bumpers, new butch-looking wheel arches, clear lens headlamps, rugged tubular side footsteps and a redesigned canopy.
The vehicle sports a new exterior and also features a mechanical locking rear differential, which engages automatically without driver intervention, the company said in a statement.
“Since its launch, the Thar has been the face of our tough and rugged DNA, a continuation of our legacy and what Mahindra stands for. Today, as we launch the new avatar of this ever popular off-roader, the effort has been to enhance the appeal of a brand that is already a cult,” said Pravin Shah, President and Chief Executive Officer (Automotive) at M&M.
Premium interiors The new Thar also features premium interiors, including a new black-beige dashboard, wider seats, a sporty three-pod instrument cluster, steering wheel and gear knob.
Built to tackle any terrain, Thar CRDe also retains off-roading features such as 440 approach angle, 270 departure angle, ground clearance of 200mm, 2500cc CRDe engine and standard four-wheel drive.
Launched in 2010, Thar is an evolved version of the Mahindra CL340, the MM 540 and is also central to Mahindra Adventure off-roading events.
