Mahindra & Mahindra on Tuesday said its manufacturing unit at Zaheerabad, Andhra Pradesh, and a coming auto suppliers’ park in the same region have the potential to create more jobs.
The company’s tractor plant in Zaheerabad now provides jobs to more than 700 people, while the auto plant employs over 800 people.
It is now setting up an automotive plant and a supplier park that have the potential to create over 1,000 jobs.
M&M is also working towards setting up an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) along with the Andhra Pradesh Government, and has committed ₹1 crore for the project.
This would be a model institute in the region and will provide high-level of technical education to students and support to industry alike.
Pawan Goenka, Executive Director of M&M, said: “The ITI will complement the auto plant as well as the fully functional tractor plant of Mahindra which has already ushered in a positive change. It is our vision to put Zaheerabad high on the automotive map of India.”
On reaching peak volumes at its Zaheerabad Tractor plant, the company is expected to engage an additional 1,000 people in a phased manner.
The Supplier Park located nearby would also provide an additional avenue for students to seek jobs. At peak capacity, they would require more than 500 people, the company said.
