Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd on Friday announced a 28 per cent increase in its sales for May at 43,988 units against 34,323 units in the same month last year.

The company’s domestic sales stood at 39,938 units during the month, as against 32,159 units during the same period in previous year, an increase of 24 per cent, it said in a statement.

The passenger vehicles segment (which includes the UVs and Verito) has registered a growth of 27 per cent, having sold 21,154 units in May 2012, as against 16,702 units during May 2011.

“We are happy to have achieved a growth of 28 per cent during May 2012 in spite of difficult and uncertain market conditions. All our brands, especially those in the personal category are doing well,” Mahindra & Mahindra Chief Executive, (Automotive Division) Mr Pravin Shah said.

With the planned ramp up of production capacity and the re-opening of bookings of the XUV500 effective June 8 pan India, the company expects to meet the demand for the vehicle, he added.
