With Maruti Suzuki pulling out all stops to ensure safety of its management, the troubled Manesar facility will now turn into a virtual fortress with about 650 security officials.
Maruti may also ask the CISF to provide security, in addition to the 100 special guards it plans to recruit.
Initially, 500 police personnel will be stationed in Manesar from the Rapid Action Force, of which 200 will be stationed within the plant.
While security is also being provided at the residences of managers and supervisors, about 40 more personal security officers are being provided by the Haryana Government
“About 25 per cent of the guards at the plant will be armed. In the long-term, I’m sure we won’t need this, but at this point of time we feel the security is necessary,” said Maruti Chairman R.C. Bhargava.
Suzuki Motor Chairman, Osamu Suzuki, who is expected to visit India next week prior to the company’s AGM on August 28, is also likely to review the situation at Manesar and visit the injured officials.
On Friday afternoon, thousands of Maruti workers and trade unions such as CITU, AITUC, INTUC, will demonstrate in different districts of Haryana demanding judicial probe into the violence.
The workers would be submitting a memorandum to the Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, asking him to intervene immediately.
