A Mangaluru-based start-up is planning to explore the potential of air sports in South India by introducing activities such as hot air ballooning for the public.

Sheik Abdul Malik, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Deccan Airsports, is planning a 15-day tour in different locations in South India. The tour is aimed at demonstrating the potential of hot-air ballooning for the stakeholders concerned.

Malik, an aerospace engineer from University of Bristol, UK, said his start-up will conduct demonstrations in Mangaluru, Kochi, Coimbatore and Bengaluru from March 4.

The activities will be conducted by two experienced pilots from the UK. These are aimed at scouting for a suitable location to set up a base for hot air ballooning in South India, he said.

Asked about the fare, he said the 15-day tour to different locations is only for demonstration purposes and the tariff hasn’t been fixed.

Deccan Airsports wants to introduce adventure sports such as hot air ballooning, gliding and sky diving. Based on the feedback and after finalising a location, the firm will introduce hot air ballooning in the first phase. The country’s young population is constantly in the look out for novel adventure activities in their leisure time, Malik said.
