British retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S) has opened its first store in Coimbatore, which is also its 13th store in the South.
In India, the company operates in joint venture with Reliance Retail.
In a release, M&S said that the new store, which has come up in Brookefields Mall on Krishnaswamy Road, has on display its popular range of menswear, womenswear and lingerie.
Venu Nair, MD, Marks & Spencer Reliance India, said that increased presence in the South was "an important part of our ongoing strategy'' to build a leadership position in the country. He expressed happiness in bringing for the first time M&S’ "exceptional quality, innovative and stylish clothing to customers in Coimbatore''.
M&S, which came to India in 2001, had entered into a joint venture with Reliance Retail in early 2008 to form Marks & Spencer Reliance India Pvt Ltd. It has now 46 stores across the country and in the South, it has stores in Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad and Coimbatore.
