The country's largest passenger car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on Sunday reported more than four per cent decline in domestic sales to 1,06,388 in December 2016 against 1,11,333 in December 2015.
Sales of its mini segment (Alto, WagonR) dropped by 15 per cent year-on-year to 31,527 units during the month compared with 37,234 units in the corresponding month in 2015.
Compact segment (like Swift, Celerio, Baleno) sales also declined by nine per cent to 43,295 units against 47,354 units in December previous year.
However, sales of its mid-size sedan Ciaz grew by 30 per cent to 3,711 units during December 2016 against 2,841 units in December 2015.
Sales of utility vehicles (like Ertiga, S-Cross and Vitara Brezza) grew 75 per cent, mainly because of the success of Vitara Brezza, to 16,072 units in December last year compared with 9,168 units in December 2015.
The company also sold 26 units of its light commercial vehicle -- Super Carry, during the month.
