Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on Monday said it sold 1,05,559 units in the domestic market during January.
Sales were up by 9.3 per cent as compared with 96,569 units in January 2014.
The sales were mainly led by the compact segment (like Swift and Celerio) that contributed 45,881 units to the total sales during the month, MSIL said in a statement.
The company sold 42,669 units of compact segment in the corresponding month last year.
However, the mini segment (Alto and Wagon R) -- once the bread and butter of the company -- continued to show fall in sales.
The mini segment was down 7.3 per cent year-on-year to 35,750 units in January as compared to 38,565 units in same month last year.
The company reported a 13.9 per cent increase in total sales at 1,16,606 units in January 2015 as against 1,02,416 units in the same period last year.
At 11.49 am, Maruti shares were trading up 1.29 per cent or Rs 47.15 at Rs 3,692.40 on the BSE.
