Maruti Suzuki on Tuesday launched a refreshed model of its bestseller car Alto.
The new Alto 800, available in six colours and three variants, is priced between Rs 2.44 lakh and Rs 3.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
While the base model costs almost the same as the previous version, the top-end model is costlier by Rs 8,000.
The petrol version promises a mileage of 22.74 km/litre and CNG version 30.460 km/kg.
“We are essentially targeting the youth, because 40 per cent of our customers are less than 35 years of age. We are hoping that this launch will rev up the car market as close to 50 per cent of our customers are first-time buyers,” said Mayank Pareek, Chief Operating Officer (Marketing & Sales).
The company opened bookings in September. Till date, the bookings have crossed 10,000.
Maruti Suzuki has invested Rs 470 crore into developing the car, on which 200 engineers have worked over four years.
The Alto was first launched in September 2000 and has sold more than two million units so far.
The price of the existing Alto ranges between Rs 2.45 lakh and Rs 3.48 lakh.
