Maruti Suzuki has increased prices across models by ₹1,500 to ₹8,014 (ex-showroom, Delhi), effective Friday. It has, however, left the recently launched Ignis untouched.
The company said the hike is because of higher commodity, transportation and administrative costs. Although it is one of the last car makers to announce an increase, this is the second hike by Maruti this fiscal year.
While the minimum increase (₹1,500) will apply to the Alto and WagonR models, the maximum, ₹8,014, will be for premium hatchback Baleno. Prices of the Alto start at ₹2.50 lakh, while the base price of the Baleno is ₹5.91 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi).
The company said that the S-Cross and Vitara Brezza will be dearer by ₹4,000-5,000, depending on the trims. The base ex-showroom price of the Vitara Brezza is ₹7.19 lakh. The S-Cross ranges between ₹8.74 lakh and ₹12.03 lakh (1.3 L and 1.6L).
However, there won’t be any change in the prices of the recently launched Ignis, said a company spokesperson. The price of the millennial car Ignis starts at ₹4.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Applicable on old bookings The new prices will be effective at the time of the delivery, even if a customer had booked a vehicle four months earlier. For instance, a customer who had booked a Maruti Suzuki Baleno last October would have to pay ₹8,014 more when he/ she gets the car next month.
Last August, Maruti had hiked the prices of the Vitara Brezza by ₹20,000 and that of the Baleno by ₹10,000. On a select range of models, the price hike was between ₹1,500 and ₹5,000.
In December, Hyundai, Mahindra & Mahindra, Nissan, Toyota Kirloskar, Renault India, Mercedes-Benz India and Tata Motors had revised prices of their vehicles from January citing higher input costs and an adverse foreign exchange impact.
