The country's largest passenger car maker Maruti Suzuki India on Sunday reported domestic sales of 1,50,521 units in September, up 10 per cent compared with 1,37,277 units in the coressponding month last year.
The sales were mainly driven by its compact segment such as the Baleno, Dzire and Ignis. Maruti sold 72,804 units in the compact segment during the month, up 45 per cent (50,324 units).
Sales of its utility vehicles such as S-Cross and Vitara Brezza grew by 8 per cent to 19,900 units (18,423 units).
Meanwhile, the second largest passenger car maker Hyundai Motor India recorded domestic sales of 50,028 units for September, up 17 per cent as compared with 42,605 units in the same month last year.
“Hyundai achieved landmark sales of 50,028 units with growth of 17.4 per cent, on the multiplier effect of phenomenal performance of newly launched Next Gen Verna with sales of over 6,000 units along with strong pull for Creta, Elite i20 and Grand i10 in this festive season," Rakesh Srivastava, Director - Sales and Marketing, Hyundai Motor India, said.
