The country's largest passenger car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), on Wednesday reported a 26 per cent growth in its January domestic sales year-on-year (YoY) to around 1.34 lakh units as against 1.06 lakh units in January last year.
Volume-wise sales were led by its compact segment (Swift, Celerio, Baleno and now Ignis) by selling 55,817 units during the month, up 25 per cent as compared with 44,575 units in January 2016, the company said.
The Mini segment (Alto, WagonR) recorded sales of 37,928 units last month, a growth of 11 per cent YoY as against 34,206 units in the corresponding month last year.
Percentage wise, the utility segment (including Ertiga,S-Cross and Vitara Brezza) more than doubled to 16,313 units in January as against 8,114 units in January last year.
Sales of its mid-size sedan grew by 20 per cent to 6,530 units during the month as compared with 5,431 units in the same month last year.
The company’s light commercial vehicle 'Super Carry', which was launched late last year, sold 166 units, the company added.
