The agitation at Maruti Suzuki India's (MSI) Manesar plant entered its 11th day on Monday with workers protesting outside the factory premises, but the company said it has resumed partial production.

"The company has resumed operations at Manesar with some of the trained workers who had refused to join the strike. The weld shop has been made operational," the company said in a statement. The Gurgaon plant has also begun operations.

The company had shut its production at Gurgaon plant for two days last week due to supply component supply constraints from Suzuki Powertrain India Pvt. ltd (SPIL).

‘Production at Gurgaon plant, however, depends on the supply of diesel engines and also transmissions from SPIL. However, MSI models such as M800, Omni, Eeco and Gypsy are not dependent on component supply from SPIL," a company official said.

In the meantime, negotiations took place between the Haryana Labour Department and the management and striking workers of MSI, SPIL and Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL).

The Labour Minister, Mr Mallikarjun Kharge, today said the Centre is monitoring the strike at MSIL’s Manesar plant, but ruled out direct intervention as long as the Haryana Labour department is handling the situation.

“We are monitoring the Maruti dispute, our Chief Labour Commissioner is assessing the situation,” Mr Kharge told reporters on the sidelines of the 44th session of the Standing Labour Committee here.

Workers of the car-maker have been on strike, demanding the reinstatement of about 1,200 casual workers and 44 permanent workers who have been under suspension after a settlement agreement signed on October 1 to end a 33-day stand-off are taken back.

Workers at Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd (SPIL) and Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) have also gone on strike in support of their colleagues at MSI’s Manesar plant.
