Ten office bearers of Maruti Suzuki Workers’ Union (MSWU), including President Ram Meher and General Secretary Sarabjit Singh, who were arrested yesterday, have been sent to seven days police custody by a local judicial magistrate.
While producing them before the court of the magistrate today, the police sought 10 days custody alleging that they were the main accused in the violence at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant on July 18 in which one senior official was killed and 100 others were injured.
The police said detailed interrogation of the arrested union leaders was required in order to get to the bottom of the violence and arson at the plant.
Those arrested yesterday from Hansi in Hisar district include Chief Patron Sandeep Dhillon, Vice—President Sohan Kumar, Cashier Suresh Kumar, Legal Advisor Ajmer Singh and Joint Secretary Pawan Kumar along with three executive members, Ram Vilas, Amarjeet and Pradeep Kumar.
Two union leaders, organising secretary Yogesh Yadav and executive member Dhanraj Bhami were earlier arrested by the police. In total, 114 workers have been arrested so far in relation to the incident.
