Hit by fire at its one of the largest vendors Subros and competition from other companies, the country's largest passenger cars manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on Friday reported more than 10 per cent decline in its sales in June.

The company sold 92,133 units during the month compared with 1,02,626 units in June 2015.

Its key segments such as mini (Alto, WagonR) and compact (like Swift, Celerio) could not contribute to better the month's sales year-on-year (YoY).

While the mini segment declined by more than 19 per cent YoY to 27,712 units during the month (versus 34,336 units), the compact segment declined by more than 12 per cent to 39,971 units compared with 45,701 units in June last year.

Sales of its sedan Dzire Tour (2,068 units versus 2,893 units) and Ciaz (2,800 units versus 3,700 units) also fell YoY during the month.

The only segment that has shown growth is the utility vehicle because of the new compact SUV Vitara Brezza and S-Cross that grew 75 per cent YoY to 9,708 units in June compared with 5,531 units in the corresponding month last year.

The company said it expects to recover the production loss during the course of the year.

"The company together with its employees and vendors is gradually stepping up production of newly launched models Baleno and Brezza to service the pending demand," it added.
