The country's largest passenger vehicle maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on Thursday reported a 12 per cent jump in sales during August at 1,19,906 units as compared with 1,06,781 units in August last year.
Volume wise, the growth was led by its compact segment including the Baleno and Swift that contributed 45,579 units during the month, up 10 per cent as compared with 41,461 units in the same month last year.
Although its mini segment (Alto, WagonR) contributed 35,490 units in August, it was a decline of around 6 per cent to what the company sold in August 2015 (37,665 units).
Meanwhile, sales of its sedan Ciaz grew around 50 per cent year-on-year to 6,214 units during the last month as compared with 4,156 units in August last year.
The utility vehicle segment also grew exponentially, mostly contributed by S-Cross, to 16,806 units in August as against 7,836 units in the corresponding month last year.
