The country's largest passenger car maker, Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL), on Friday said it has sold 1,11,333 units in the domestic market in December, up 13.5 per cent as compared with 98,109 units in the same month in 2014.
Most of the sales during the month were led by the compact segment (Swift, Celerio, Baleno, Dzire) that grew by 14 per cent to 47,354 units in December against 41,532 units in the corresponding month of the previous year.
Sales in the mini segment (Alto and WagonR) grew by 7.5 per cent to 37,234 units during the month as compared with 34,625 units in December 2014.
However, the mid-size sedan (Ciaz) could not sell much during the month and declined by 24 per cent to 2,841 units as against 3,731 units in the same month in 2014.
Utility vehicles (such as the Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross) grew by 59 per cent to 9,168 units during December last year as compared with 5,774 units in December 2014.
