Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on Tuesday rolled out its 15 millionth car, becoming the only car manufacturer in India to roll out such a number.
The 15 millionth car, a DZire VDi, was rolled out from the company’s Manesar facility, it said in a statement.
The first car, a Maruti 800, was rolled out from the Gurgaon facility in December 1983. The company has achieved this milestone in 31 years and five months.
“Maruti Suzuki’s journey has been one of Kaizen and continuous improvement. Our people on the shop floor make enormous contribution so that we can offer more and better to our customers, and fulfil their needs and aspirations,” Rajiv Gandhi, Executive Director, Production, MSIL, said.
“We want to get to 20 million in good time, by making quality products with the help of capable and motivated people,” he said.
The company’s medium term goal is to clock sales of two million vehicles per annum by 2020. It is expanding its product portfolio, foraying into new segments, strengthening the sales and service network and enhancing capabilities across the value chain, Maruti Suzuki said.
Models that significantly contributed to this journey include Maruti 800, Brand Alto, Wagon R, Omni and new models such as Swift and DZire, it added.
