The country's largest passenger car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on Tuesday reported domestic sales of 1,63,434 units for the month of April, up 13 per cent as compared with 1,44,081units in same month last year. The sales were mainly led by the compact segment (including the Swift, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire), which sold 83,834 units during the month as against 63,584 units in April 2017.
The utility vehicle segment (including Vitara Brezza, Ertiga and S-Cross) sold 20,804 units last month as compared with 20,638 units in the corresponding month last year. However, sales of the mini segment (Alto and WagonR) declined by 3 per cent year-on-year to 37,794 units in April as against 38,897 units in April last year. Sales of its mid-size sedan also declined by 27 per cent YoY to 5,116 units during the month as against 7,024 units in the corresponding month last year.
The company sold 1,544 units of its light commercial vehicle Super Carry in April against 411 units in last April.
