Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) on Friday said it sold 1,00,709 units in the domestic market in April, up 27 per cent as compared with 79,119 units in same month last year.
Most of the sales were driven by mini and compact segment, which grew year- on-year. The company improved in its mini segment (Alto, WagonR) sales, which were down in the last few months.
MSIL sold 35,403 units of Alto and WagonR put together during April, up 36 per cent as against 26,043 units in corresponding month last year.
Similarly, it grew 8.7 per cent in the compact segment (Swift, Ritz) by selling 42,297 units last month as compared with 38,926 units in April 2014.
Hyundai sales rise
Meanwhile, the second largest passenger car maker and largest exporter Hyundai Motor India (HMIL), registered domestic sales of 38,601 units in April, up 9.5 per cent as against 35,248 units in April last year.
"Hyundai with a volume of 38,601 units continued the growth momentum with 9.5 per cent increase over last year on the strength of strong and young product portfolio led by 12,425 units of Elite i20 and i20 Active in challenging market conditions especially in the rural market," Rakesh Srivastava, Senior Vice President - Sales and Marketing, HMIL said.
