Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda being welcomed by Sanjay Agarwal, President, MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry during an interactive session on ‘Investment opportunities in Haryana’ in Kolkata on Sunday.

Harayana’s Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on Sunday said Maruti Suzuki India is likely to start production at its Manesar plant soon.

The company announced a lockout of its Manesar plant following violent labour unrest on July 18 that killed a senior HR executive.

“Operations at Maruti’s Manesar plant are expected to start as early as possible. The company has assured that it would not move out of Manesar,” Hooda said. He was in the city to address an interactive session on investment opportunities in Haryana organised by the MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

However, Hooda did not specify any timeline in this regard.

The chief minister said the Maruti management was happy with the State Government’s move to set up a special investigation team to look into the case. He added that the scuffle at Maruti plant was an untoward incident and should be sorted out soon.

Land Acquisition

Asked about the West Bengal Government’s decision to not acquire land for private industries, Hooda said: “It is possible to acquire land for private industries without the intervention of the State Government.”

According to him, if any industry requires a large chunk of land and it fails to acquire a portion of it for connectivity, the State Government will acquire that land for the project.

FDI in Retail

On foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail, Hooda said: “Being the son of a farmer, I support FDI in multi-brand retail. With this, the farmers will get more returns.”

He added that the Centre should allow FDI in multi-brand retail in states that support the move.
