The third generation of the Suzuki Swift will be launched in India in the last quarter of the 2017-18 fiscal year.

One of the best selling models for Maruti Suzuki, the new Swift will sport a sharper, sleeker design with a number of new distinctive features, while still carrying forward the original concept's design DNA.

The third-gen Swift is expected to be positioned similarly to the current model in India, and is expected to come home with most of the features that the new European-spec sports. However, some of the safety tech that the new-gen is premiering for the Euro-spec like radar-based tech may not be made available for the India-spec. The interior will also be a variation, but the overall design and layout is expected to be similar, and will be more youthful than the current model.

The new 2018 Swift in India will also be dimensionally larger than the current model. It is built on a new lightweight Heartect platform, which bears no similarities to the Baleno or Ignis platform. The Heartect platform is also said to be more rigid and sportier.

Information regarding the choice of powertrains for India is not out yet.

But, the current two options may yet continue with the possible addition of the one-litre BoosterJet petrol engine that is being offered in the new Baleno RS.

The Indian premiere of the new Swift will be at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Correction

The new Suzuki Swift is based on a modified version of the platform used for the Baleno, and not as mentioned in the original copy which says that the two cars do not share the same platform.
