Mumbai-based kidwear retailer Me N Moms will withdraw its case against Mahindra Retail for alleged violation of brand name use.
This after, Mahindra decided to change the name of its maternity and childcare retail stores from Mom & Me to Baby Oye.
The case was filed by Me N Moms against its bigger competitor almost four years ago.
Naresh B K, CMD, Me N Moms, told
With sales turnover of more than ₹100 crore, the privately-owned Me N Moms was one of the first kids retailer to set up shop nearly 25 years ago.
With 47 stores now, its pace of growth has been much slower than Mahindra Retail which has crossed 100 stores.
According to sources, Mahindra Retail was ready to have an out-of-court settlement and was even willing to buy out the name for almost ₹10 crore from the Mumbai-based retailer.
“We still have not heard anything from Me N Mom about the case,’’ said Prakash Wakankar, CEO, Mahindra Retail.
Mahindra Retail is now focusing on building its online strategy with the Baby Oye brand and would be pitting itself against stronger e-commerce brands such as FirstCry .com, which has recently roped in Amitabh Bachchan as its brand ambassador.
